Day 1

We have almost finished our first day overseas. This jet lag is no joke! We just took at short 1.5 hour nap and I don’t want to wake up! Red Bull is not doing its job right now. So, I will share a few sights of our first day. We arrived in Bahrain around 5:30 am.

Getting through customs and getting our bags took forever. Chris had to go into the office today in order to get the ball rolling on his job. I have been chatting with a fellow spouse for the past few months and she has been a wealth of knowledge and so patient answering all of the 15 million questions that I have had. She met up with us at the base and I finally met her in person. How sweet is she for meeting up with us sooo early and taking me under her “wings”. She brought me back to her house while the guys worked and let me take a shower, drink coffee, and eat a delicious blueberry muffin! Once again answered some questions and then showed me around her community and then off to a very important place to me to show me around. We went to a grocery store called Alarosa. She compared it to a hybrid of Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods and let me tell you it did not disappoint! Next up we went to base to the “Freedom Souq”. This consists of a food court, an exchange, post office and other comforts. For all who are curious we have all kinds of access to pork. In fact I saw this gem and was extremely excited.

From there we met up with Chris and decided to try to check into our hotel early. This place is incredible (thankfully because we will be here for about 45 days). This is the view from our window. I think I can handle this!

After Chris showered we went out in search for RedBulls!!!! They didn’t help one bit so I agreed to a short 1.5 hour nap so that we can try to go to sleep at a normal time and wake up at a reasonable hour and not wide awake at 2am. Maybe 30 minutes into our nap the doorbell rings (yes, the hotel room has a doorbell) they delivered a welcome treat to our room with some kind of bread, an apple that was cored and pealed and even a macroon They were lavender and absolutely delicious!

We ended up going to grab dinner at a little Irish pub attached to the hotel. We were too sleepy to try and find something out in town so this was perfect. We were able to force ourselves to stay awake without having to exert a lot of energy. Now we are back at the hotel and Chris is doing homework while I write this. Also, it would be unacceptable if i didn’t mention the insane amount of marble here. Here is a picture of our lobby and this is just a small portion!

One of the areas that I saw yesterday even had marble sidewalks! Wow! This is going to be such an adventure!
